Africa

Avant has a rich history of work in Africa. In 1890, while the mission was still forming, 9 missionaries were sent to Sierra Leone, but only 4 survived. The work in Africa continued with missionaries sent to North Africa in 1894, and the work officially began in Mali in 1919. Avant was the first evangelical Christian mission to enter the Republic of Mali.

Today the work continues with ministry across the African continent including opportunities in church planting, theological education, MK education, teaching English as a second language, audio Bibles, farming God's way, creating waterwheels for communities, work in leper communities, and more.

Avant ministry in Africa* includes:

  • Angola
  • Mali
  • Senegal
  • South Sudan
  • Tanzania
  • Uganda

*For security reasons, some countries may not be listed
