East Africa: Audio Bibles
The people of Sudan have suffered the effects of many decades of war. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and millions have been forced to flee their homes. Every refugee has a story of loss, separation from family, and daily hardship. Many feel forgotten and alone. The widespread pain and brokenness are tragic, and in this Muslim context, people are in spiritual darkness with no peace or hope of anything good in life.
In John 7:38 Jesus says, “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them” (NIV). The new life Jesus offers holds the comfort of His presence in this life and the hope of fullness of joy with Him in eternity. This invitation to peace with God and hope in Jesus is a message the refugees in East Africa desperately need to hear.
Avant created the East Africa Audio Bible project to take the Word of God to these refugees and communities in East Africa where there is no access to His Word. Many of the people in this region of Africa do not read but they have a strong oral tradition that allows them to retain knowledge through their memory skills and powerful storytelling.
This project will fund the purchase and distribution of solar-powered audio devices containing the Bible and supporting discipleship materials. We’ve already purchased 5,000 audio Bibles, and our goal is to purchase 10,000 more. The cost of one audio Bible including taxes, shipping, and distribution, is $38.76.
As we wait on God to provide the funds, our workers in East Africa are actively preparing pastors and evangelists to take the audio Bibles to refugee camps and other communities to share the love of Christ.
